Miller-Ranch Trail Verde River
The day after your arrival, after a hearty breakfast at the authentic "General Store" or at the Miller-Ranch, you can purchase your Cowboy gear at aWestern Store.
Later the day you will be introduced to our extraordinary Missouri Fox Trotter horses. You will then select your mount from a herd of well-trained horses, which you will ride in the round pen in order to get yourself accustomed to the different Foxtrotter gaits. Shortly after this introduction we will take you on a trail ride into the surrounding Sonora desert, where you can try out your horse's flat foot walk, foxtrot and canter. You will be amazed at how comfortable you are on your Foxtrotter Horse..
This trail adventure is a one-week ride into the Mazatal Wilderness along the Verde River. You and your group will ride your Missouri Fox Trotter and lead packhorses carrying our gear and supplies. For 5 days and 4 nights, we will cross the Sonoran Desert of the Mazatal Wilderness, which will lead us high into the mountains of Strawberry, at an elevation of 6000 ft. The trail runs for roughly 50 miles, first through the Saguaro cacti of the lower elevations and then Juniper Pines as we gain higher elevations. We will cross several small creeks, which could have an abundance of water at times, depending on the rains. The Spanish Conquistadors, and their mule trains originally used the trail to carry gold ore, which they found from Colorado to Vera Cruz, Mexico.
The trail is a rather easy ride, which will allow our guests to enjoy the scenery and become very well acquainted with our horses. Encounters with other people are rare and if you would like, you can swim with your horse in the Verde River. The final part of the trail is the ride up into the mountains, to Twin Buttes near Strawberry, where the Miller crew will pick us up at the trailhead to conclude the trail ride.
The last night, back in Scottsdale, into the welcome arms of civilization (or not!!!).
