The Breed Show
The Breed Show held at Miller-Ranch in March 2018 was the first event in the USA where Missouri Fox Trotters were evaluated to see if they met the necessary criteria for entry into the Stud Book of Origin for the Missouri Fox Trotter Breed. The first time a breeding show occurred in the USA, was specifically held to assess the entire breeding stock of Miller Ranch. MFTHBA and EMFTHA approved Breeding Judges and the Breed Manager from Germany came together to The Miller-Ranch to evaluate their Missouri Fox Trotter horses. The horses must be 3 years old before they can be checked and evaluated to see if they are suitable to be admitted for breeding and they must pass all credentials to be registered in the Stud Book of the EMFTHA. Within the European Union, all state-recognized Breeding Associations are controlled for compliance with the Breeding Guidelines (ZBO) of the EMFTHA.
The horses must also pass a ZTU before the judge’s qualification test. The ZTU is a Breeding Suitability Examination by recognized veterinarians. This guarantees that no hereditary diseases and genetic malformations are passed on in breeding.
What is judged by the Breed Judges?
- Each horse to be judged is presented in-hand
- Height measurement
- Other measurements are compared with the conformation standard (Standard of the Breed by MFTHBA)
- Any deviations must be within the specified limits
- Performance
Each horse under saddle and no saddle is evaluated for the following criteria:
- The horse’s performance
- Stand quietly
- Flat Foot Walk
- Fox Trot
- Canter
Horsemanship
- Rider and horse
- The judges assess how the horse reacts to the riders aids and commands.

How important are the shows? Why does the Miller-Ranch present its MFT in the shows?
The most important Missouri Fox Trotter Tournaments, the Show and Celebration/World Championship, are taking place in Missouri. It means for Miller-Ranch, coming from Arizona, expensive and time-consuming long trips.
But in the comparison with the Best of the Best it proves where the Miller-Ranch stands as a breeding operation. It is all worth it – and we can be very proud of what we have accomplished, and our breeding goals will continue to be measured here.
In the USA, horses bred by the Miller-Ranch have won at the Show and Celebration/World Championship in Ava, Mo World Champion- and World Grand Champion Titles. As well in Model Classes, in Open Performance Gait- Classes and in Western Versatility Classes.
In Europe, Missouri Fox Trotters, bred by Miller-Ranch, dominate the show scene since 1996, undefeated as European Champion of Champions, European Hight Point Champions up to the Title Best Gaited Horse of the Year 2019.

European Champion of Champion / European Highpoint Champion
In the USA the performance class, where horses are judged mainly on their gaits, is the King class.
In Europe this is not enough to become European Champion of Champion or Highpoint Champion. The Champion of Champion must also be judged in addition to performance in the classes: Westernpleasure, Trail, Horsemanship and Model/Holder to be shown. In all these classes the horse must be placed far in front to be rated accordingly high. The performance class will be rated higher than the other classes. However, the score achieved at the end is decisive.
